One Of the Many

Trips of my summer...

So, my father decided he wanted to get rid of the cat, two days before I left. His name is Mittentail, and was a reward for my learning to read. I've always been slightly insane over animals. It shows I am destined for the life with the title of, "cat lady" or the like.

Well, being the animal lover I am, and natural hippie as well as protester, this was NOT going to happen. A 13 year old cat, brought to the pound? Not over my dead body. So, I brought this old, pissed off cat, on a four hour plane ride.

They don't give tranquilizers anymore to pets, but if you were sitting next to my cat, even the PETA people would wish he was sedated. Howl howl howl. And he proceeded to urinate in his carrier, which I learned after it leaked onto my pants, bringing him to baggage claim.
It was worth it. He's with my Mom now in Memphis.

Memphis was uneventful. Just saw Mom and went and did basic errands. Her boyfriend is really fun, so we played Wii more than one would find normal. However, I did walk into Border's with a gift card in hand and purchased a discounted anatomy and physics reference book. Hey, I am a Biomedical Engineer. Stop staring.

Then at Target, I was in the dollar aisle and purchased a Hello Kitty pen. Don't ask me why.

Finally, we went to a boutique that's been in the area since the 1800's that all the "to do" ladies shop at. They never have a clearance area, but for some reason, that particular day they did. I found a pair of dark wash J Brand wide legged jeans. IN MY SIZE... WITH FREE HEMMING. I don't spend much on jeans. I just don't. I have one pair that were full price, but were a gift. I usually get cheap denim, or highly discounted designer jeans. However, these were $218 down to $50. How could I resist?

We then flew to New York and stayed in the city for a few days. My whole family is from here, so it wasn't as exciting as it is for new comers. I'd much rather be seeing it for the first time!

Here were the things I purchased there:
Long vest, Earrings, Headband, Bag, Skeleton Key Things, Steve Madden Sandals & Belt

After that we went to Woodbury Commons, these insane outlets. Seriously, look at the store listings.
Three Shirts & a Bag. Having buyers remorse for the purse...
I must say, I was HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED with the outlets this time. I saved up ALL my money to get new digs. Oh well, at least I have extra cash! But, nothing was special, nor amazingly discounted!

But, it's just a hit-and-miss sort of deal. Last time I went I purchased the following for CHEAP:
Dior heels, Betsey Johnson dress, Maxstudio.com sandals, Karl Lagerfeld cropped jacket, Saks dress, Barney's handbag, Cole Haan clutch (FOR 7 BUCKS! Uh...!?)... etc.

But, in the end I know I am lucky for finding anything at all. =) I appreciated just being out there in the SUN! It was so nice.

Then after that we went out to Long Island to see some more family. A drug store was shutting down (Rite Aid) and I had fun, since all the cosmetics were down to $1, and stuff like that.
Then I went back to Tennessee, and now I'm here!

Yay. The end.

I'm Back!

Oh goodness gracious! I am sorry I've taken so long to post on here. I hope you all haven't forgotten about me, that would be so tragic. =(

But, I am back now, and ready for ACTION! I am taking pictures as we speak, so I can update you all.

Hope everything is well.

Help?

So, I found these shoes at Goodwill the other day...
They are plain and I want to do something fun with them. It's a blank canvas calling my name. However, I am fresh out of ideas. Inspiration anyone? I know it's my artwork, but maybe someone will give me a genius idea, or will help in my endeavors. Who knows, I could have an epiphany any time now.

Also, I like these dorky Harry Potter-esque glasses. Is there any way that I could pop out the glass and get sunglass lenses put in?

I also purchased boring, not original items today, but why not share? I went for the typical aviators, because I continually break and lose my glasses. I lost all of my fun, kitschy ones. & a croc headband. Where is my originality? Yawn. Oh, they're from H&M, I suppose.

Let me be honest, I miss the OLD H&M. As in, before it entered the United States. I remember when the quality was a lot better... my favorite one was in Copenhagen. Now, I feel like everything from here falls apart, not to mention everyone is obsessed with it. Oh well, I can't complain. Somewhat decent design for affordable prices. An IKEA of the fashion world.

My friend went to Hawaii and brought me back chocolate macadamias. Typical, lovely, delicious, fitting gift.

I'm Off!

...and running.

Out to Memphis, TN and New York City from 8/14 to 8/26!

However, I shall try to update, or bombard you with photographs later.

Changed up the music. Previous list:
  • Britney Spears - Break the Ice (Kaskade Remix)
  • M.I.A. - Galang
Current List:
  • Blur - Coffee & T.V.
  • Tom Petty - Mary Jane's Last Dance
  • Of Montreal - Wraith Pinned to the Mist (And Other Things)
Ta-ta!

One Man's Trash, Another Man's Treasure

Sorry for not posting yesterday but I was modeling for my photographer friend Nathan. Went around a playground and fields in the gray gloom. What more? We added irony by me wearing a prom dress and long layers of pearls. When he posts the pictures (like months from now) I'll be sure to post them.

Besides that, I got a package today. A SURPRISE ONE! From my boyfriend. Hmm... this is what was in it:

A card that says "Thinking of You..."

A burned picture CD & 2 burned music CD's

A batch of his own homemade cookies!

Yay!

I also picked through my Dad's "Give to Goodwill" bags & the like and ended up salvaging the following:
A bunch of random tins. I am going to fill them with goodies for someone ELSE'S surprise package.

A men's medium Jean Paul Gaultier shirt (it looks awesome on...)

A piece of chain that will be looped as a bracelet. My arm/hand looks... interesting.

A Tamagotchi. Who remembers these?!

A men's medium white Hugo Boss shirt.

A pair of mint green knit Armani socks. =)

A wooden carved box from when my Father was a child.

The treasures inside of the box: hippie necklace, snakeskin wallet, cards, college tassel, keys, vial, a quote

A quote in French, "Mais non, c'est comme le petit Jesus en culotte de velours."
It means something like, "It's as smooth as the Christ child in velvet pants."

Cheer

Today I woke up, and the first thing I did was watch a YouTube video I'd forgotten about. Let's just say, it cheered me up.

I'll make this post short and sweet.

This is the t-shirt I am planning to order, titled, "Birdman"

From ImaginaryFoundation.com for $30

And this is the video that kept me happy, in a sick sort of way. Hope shooting bunnies will keep your day as peachy as mine... Here's to rediscovery!

Not So Much...

Not a very creative outfit. Not a creative day. However, the teal of the dress cheers me up.
  • Dress: Tresics
  • Cardigan: Gap
  • Boots: Frye

I don't feel like being home, I'd rather be here...
My boyfriend took these when he hiked the John Muir Trail (it goes through the Sierras in California). I absolutely love them.

I'll be honest though, I've only recently had an appreciation for nature in the United States. Like, really recently. I've always been the San Francisco city girl. Only the Alps looked appealing.

I've definitely changed my mind.

I like to think of that area as a mysterious part of the Sierras. As if it were a secret.

Insperatus.

Livin' The Lux Life

Outfit a la Polyvore:

Insperatus: Lake Tahoe

These lake pictures inspire me to want to wear vintage jeweled sweaters, flow-y dresses, wavy hair - au natural, and sweet, flat sandals.
Enjoy.

Fiat Lux

So, I guess the first blog post is to talk a little bit about yourself. Here it goes:

The title of this blog, Insperatus Lux, was my feeble attempt at using Latin in order to say "Unfound Light" or "Unexpected Light". The reason behind the title? I am hoping to use street fashion as well as editorial, music, art and climate in order to inspire everyday fashion and how we see the world around us.

At some point I hope to find some San Franciscans that catch my eye, and photograph them. Watch out my Bay Area friends! This will go with me throughout my travels as well.

Besides the blog, here is a little about myself:

- For Internet purposes, I go by "K.t.c."
- I used to have a blog: http://chicfashionflair.blogspot.com however I never updated because I hated the title, and felt there was no direction. I am starting over, and hopefully better.
- I've been to 19 countries.
- I am a Biomedical Engineering major, and therefore some find it ironic for me to love fashion...
- I love questions, so please ask them ALWAYS.
